apteryx06 asked:

I appreciate american folk music a lot.
I’m Italian and I only know the most mamous singers of this genre, such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.
Could you please tell me other artists of this kind of music?
Are there still folk music in America? Which are the most known and good singers?
Thanks.

Trying to find a music video?

itsrainingmusic asked:

There’s a folk music video I’ve been trying to find again. I can’t remember the name of the song or artist but in the video a man with glasses is biking on the highway, later through a park. It ends with a choir randomly singing to him. The song’s theme is not taking time to smell the roses. Any ideas??
I’m looking for a web site hosting service

what music do you like? I need somethin new to listen to?

choconilla asked:

Right now I’ve pulled my old school Regina Spektor and Lauryn Hill out… I also just started listening to MIA (i know i’m behind but I was kinda skeptical about her being a rap artist)… I really like folk /anti-folk type music as well as soul, blues, and anything funky and different… my fave singer of all time is Jack Johnson!

So what u got for me?

Any music recommendations?

Tangelina asked:

Mainly, I listen to a lot of indie/acoustic/folk-pop music. For the most part, I like really mellow music. I’m not a fan of country and hip-hop/rap music. Here are some of the artists I really like:

Cary Brothers
Meiko
Ingrid Michaelson
Rachael Yamagata
William Fitzsimmons
Priscilla Ahn
Greg Laswell
A Fine Frenzy
Jack Johnson
Coldplay
Tori Amos
She Wants Revenge

Does anyone have any recommendations of music that is similar to these artists/bands? If so, please share! Thanks so much!

What exactly defines the folk genre?

Inspire asked:

People have been telling me my music is folk music and this has really irritated/offended me because, without really taking much notice of genres before, I always thought folk was banjos and straw hats. But last week I noticed Cat Stevens is folk (which I just assumed was pop). I looked up the folk category to find some of the music legends were folk too. So I now see it’s more of a compliment than an insult.

But here’s my question: what exactly is the defining point that makes a song a folk song? I’m not looking for examples of folk songs and artists, I’m looking for something concrete I can put my finger on and say, “yes, this is a folk song.”

Thanks in advance.
