Is the current generation more like the youth of the 1960s or the 1980s?

Mike C asked:

Folk music (also called protest songs) appealed to politically and socially conscious young adults in the 1960s. By the end of the 1980s, the youth culture had become very passive. Is the current generation more like the youth of the 1960s or the 1980s? How is this reflected in the music you listen to? Do artists such as Rage Against the Machine reflect the political and social attitudes of today’s youth?

Neither, really. The youth of today aren’t directly comparable to the youth of any particular time in the past.

Well I’m 16, and believe it or not, I’m a hippie. I know quite a few hippies as well. Original hippies are still there, and Bush is in power, and with his worthless war, so yea, I think the 60’s are kind of coming back, but I think today’s youth is more like 80’s kids…not me though. The problem is, half the kids today, don’t even give a shit. I think that we should bring the 60’s back man. All we have to do really is get off our butts and try to make a difference.

I would say that every generation is so different that it would be hard to make a comparison. We are evolving all the time. We now know we can’t safely do the things they did in the sixties - free sex, drugs etc. This current generation is so much more smarter as they have seen the consequences of their parents era. Sorry don’t know Rage Against the Machine and I was a youth of the 70’s!

Your kidding right? Our parents would have kicked our butts if we ever talked back like kids do today, we showed respect to our elders and we didn’t do drugs or whine for material things… The youth of today is nothing like the youth of the 60’s and even worse then the 80’s..sorry..I know there are good kids out there..I apologize to them.
